Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop an expert system based on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) for diagnosing issues in tempe

production, an important fermented product in the Indonesian diet. The tempe production process often encounters

challenges such as fermentation failure, microbial contamination, and raw material quality issues. This

descriptive research employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches, with data collection conducted

through interviews, observations, literature reviews, and questionnaires from tempe producers in tempe

producing regions. The research findings indicate that 60% of producers experience fermentation failure, 30%

face contamination issues, and 10% encounter problems related to soybean quality. The developed expert system

can diagnose problems and provide solutions with an accuracy rate of 85%. The implementation of this system

not only accelerates the diagnostic process but also reduces losses due to failed products and improves the quality

of the tempe produced. The results of this research demonstrate the significant potential of information technology

in supporting the food industry, particularly in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of tempe products in

the market. Thus, the CBR-based expert system can serve as an effective tool for tempe producers to address the

challenges they face and ensure sustainable production
