Protection Of Women's Political Rights In The Indragiri Hilir Coastal Area For The Realization Of Gender Equality

Legal protection of political rights is an effort to ensure that individual political rights are recognised and protected by a country's legal system. Political rights include various rights related to participation in the political process, such as the right to vote, the right to be elected, the right to participate in government, and the right to voice political opinions. Some regions, including Indragiri Hilir, have not yet had opportunities related to their political rights, therefore there is a need for legal protection for women in order to achieve gender equality in coastal areas. The problem in this research is how legal protection of women's political rights in achieving gender equality in the coastal area of Tembilahan Indragiri Hilir. The research method used in this research is empirical juridical, legal research on the enactment or implementation of normative legal provisions in each specific legal event that occurs in society. The results showed that women in the coastal area of tembilahan have not received their rights related to being elected and choosing, there are still many women who have not participated in regional head elections either as voters or running for regional head candidates. Men still dominate political rights in tembilahan even though the basic principles of political rights protection have been regulated in the constitution and basic laws of the state as well as in various international instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
